# Inter the Dungeon

Official Inter the Dungeon white paper, updated 4/22/22

## **Introduction**

Axie Infinity was our gateway to GameFi and helped us feel comfortable with exploring and understanding the defi space. We were inspired and purchased Project K land with the intent of enriching the Axie ecosystem. We realized, however, that moving assets between games is going to be critical to creating shared game experiences. [“The ability to bring digital ownership from one context to another is a prerequisite for bringing digital style, digital prestige, and digital identity along with it.”](https://naavik.co/business-breakdowns/interoperability) (Matt Dion-Naavik). This functionality will bring in new assets to Lunacia and bind the community closer together. Our game is designed to be a testbed for tackling the interoperability problem between games.

### **Mission Statement**

To create a game that will provide the standards for sharing style, prestige, and identity by showcasing how to exchange resources between games.

### **Vision**

A model game and API that will tackle the interoperability problem between blockchain games.

# Gameplay

## **Gameplay Overview**

Inter the Dungeon is a push-your-luck dungeon crawl game using Axies. It is inspired by the theme and mechanics found in modern board games such as Incan Gold, Munchkin, and Welcome to the Dungeon. After connecting their Ronin wallet and verifying their axies, players will spend SLP and daily energy entering different themed dungeons. Players reveal a room in the dungeon and resolve it. After they’ve resolved the room, they can choose to reveal another room or leave the dungeon with the loot they’ve collected. If the player doesn’t resolve the revealed room they lose, and anything they’ve collected in that run is lost.

# Dungeon Runs

#### Dungeon Flow

After selecting their Axie for the dungeon, players receive an allotment of colored crystals based on the Axie type and purity. All players are given a starting hand of non-tokenized cards, but may bring in \*NFT cards/cosmetics they earned in previous runs. All cards have two uses the player may choose from, one-time use and an equipped longer time use. Axies will be allowed to equip three pieces of equipment. Types of equipment include weapons, shields, helmets/hats, and armor. In addition, there will be non-utility-based cosmetic items for players to show off during their runs.

Subsequently, players travel through individual rooms and are confronted with different scenarios. The first scenario is defeating chimeras. Chimeras have a numeric die value and a fixed set of cards they play at the start of the battle. On entering the room, the player rolls a die that can be modified by the colored crystals and/or cards. If the player has a higher numeric value than the Chimera, the player resolves the room. Chimera have a chance to drop loot in the form of additional crystals, non-tokenized cards, a small amount of SLP/AXS, or an \*NFT cosmetic/card. The second scenario is to encounter a trap. There are several types of traps. The traps include adding curse cards to fill the player's hand, forcing the player to discard a card, or adding a poison counter to the player that will cause them to lose after collecting three. This is to prevent a pay-to-win scenario and limit the total time in any dungeon. The third scenario is a treasure room. Treasure rooms provide additional crystals, a small amount of SLP/AXS, a non-tokenized card/cosmetic item, or an \*NFT card/cosmetic item.

**Game Resolution (Winning and Losing)**

After the resolution of every room, the player will have the option of leaving the dungeon. If they chose to leave, token/non-token cards and resources earned will be recorded and stored on their account. If they should lose while playing, they lose ALL tokens or unequipped cards earned during that run. Cosmetic and equipped cards brought in before the run starts will not be lost if the player should lose. After each run, all equipped cards will be partially depleted, preventing players from hoarding card resources in the game.

**Progressive Difficulty**

As players advance in their run, they'll reach milestone points where the difficulty increases. The Chimera they fight will change, have a higher number of dice (D4, D6, D8, D10, D12), and the percentage chance of more and better loot will increase.

#### \*NFT Skin/Utility Items

During players' run through the dungeon, they will have the chance to find themed NFT in-game items. There will be a mix of purely cosmetic, utility, and both items. Items that have utility will be limited in the number of times they can be used in the game before they are burned. Burned items return into the dungeon loot circulation. Utility and cosmetic items will also be limited in the total number that will ever be minted to prevent inflation and help players craft unique identities and styles of play.

\*No NFTs will be minted without the express permission of the Sky Mavis team as outlined in their Builder's Program guidelines.

# Economy

The initial SLP burn mechanic for Inter the Dungeon will be an entry fee to play the game.

Additional SLP burn mechanics may include:

**·** A marketplace where users sell in-game non-tokenized and \*NFT cosmetics and cards for SLP. Designed not to devolve into a pay-to-win model. The system limits the number of power-ups that can be used or carried and only allows power-ups in non-ranked dungeon runs.

**·** Tournament entry fees (furthest run in the dungeon or a 1v1 battleground)

**·** Import/Export fees for non-Axie NFT assets

#### Importing Game Assets

The majority of \*NFT assets being imported would be purely cosmetic as their utility would have to be coded for and balanced. Our collaborations with other Axie builder projects could allow for utility in a themed dungeon that has some essence of the other's project. This collaboration could serve as both a marketing tool and a source of residual SLP income for both parties and the community (in the form of burning SLP).

Example collaboration: If the other's project involved Axie car racing, their assets would likely be driving-related. Instead of chimera, we could replace them with opposing cars. Instead of dungeon traps, we could have road hazards. Instead of treasure rooms, we could have fill-up stations. While some of the situations may get silly or wacky, it would serve to create additional narratives for both projects.

**Exporting Game Assets**

This is a crucial part of our project as we develop API endpoints that can convert art assets from one game engine to another. As with importing assets to Inter the Dungeon, this could serve as both a marketing tool and a source of residual SLP income for collaborating parties and the community (in the form of burning SLP).

\*No NFTs will be minted without the express permission of the Sky Mavis team as outlined in their Builder's Program guidelines.

# Multiplayer/Classes

Future development would involve allowing users to play together in real time and show off their skills and unique cosmetics.

### Multiplayer

We eventually plan on adding a semi-cooperative mode after initial release. Players would play together to advance in the dungeon, but individual players could leave early and take some of the groups collected loot with. If available, we'd consider adding or utilizing Sky Mavis' emojis for players to be able to taunt and encourage each other during game play.

### Unique Cosmetics

Once players start playing together in real time, they're going to want to show off the unique abilities and cosmetics. We plan to allow players to create their own cosmetics.

# Community/Interoperability

Using our decades of experience creating enterprise-level software, we want to set the example of a solid API-based foundation that can pave the way for others to create Axie community-run applications. Our APIs will simplify moving assets between the various Axie projects. The game we create will be the showcase of what is possible.

We will be actively seeking out fellow Axie Builder projects to both share our resources with and create collaborations where we can import, display, and promote their game assets in both of our games' play spaces.

Our interoperability project will develop the API protocols and documentation for Axie microverse creators to easily transfer and balance NFT and fungible assets between Axie community games.

In addition, we're creating a series of simple mini-games in Unity to assist with educating others for creating specification-driven web3 development and hosting APIs to allow creators to leverage the existing infrastructure for their games. In other words, help design best practices in sharing content between games.

# API

We are creating a productized API using best practices.

All APIs start with an [OpenAPI](https://github.com/OAI/OpenAPI-Specification) specification that has been well thought out and developed with the help of [APICURIO Studio](https://www.apicur.io/) and [Microcks](https://microcks.io/). The OpenAPI specification is used to generate code, documentation, mock endpoints, etc. Ultimately, the API developed is managed via [3Scale](https://www.3scale.net/) and easily scaled with [Openshift](https://www.redhat.com/en/technologies/cloud-computing/openshift).

![Open API Spec Authoring Tool (Source View)](https://2771914970-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FXU15gneTfd7MnB7Wbars%2Fuploads%2FcjkK5jZjjd6EfDKy4yeX%2FAPICURIO.png?alt=media\&token=d838b333-aacc-425a-9d12-42c557fc1578) ![Design View](https://2771914970-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FXU15gneTfd7MnB7Wbars%2Fuploads%2FFpQVhoYQCqJzWj6hEZZR%2Fapicurio2.png?alt=media\&token=da1726c9-7b62-48b4-ad44-eb773ab649b6)

![Generates the mock endpoints based on the Open API specifications](https://2771914970-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FXU15gneTfd7MnB7Wbars%2Fuploads%2FOO1mm8QgnSxbk1GIipGz%2FMicRocks.png?alt=media\&token=dfae1d69-35df-47a7-b4d0-61ef94126afe)

![API Management Software](https://2771914970-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FXU15gneTfd7MnB7Wbars%2Fuploads%2FVrhthz3YCx4WdJZ59BZB%2F3Scale.png?alt=media\&token=2d4d63b5-6387-4386-a8e7-f5f101995c42)

# NFT Specification

\*No NFTs will be minted without the express permission of the Sky Mavis team as outlined in their Builder's Program guidelines.

We will generate an NFT specification, much like an [OpenAPI](https://github.com/OAI/OpenAPI-Specification) spec. This will allow game and NFT creators, within the Sky Mavis Builder's Program, to fully define their NFTs with cosmetic and other functionality in a standardized way.

We will have tools that guide game and NFT creators in filling out the specification for their projects. The NFT specifications can be used to automate much of the process for making NFTs and making them compatible between games and applications within the Axie metaverse.

# Educational Materials

In leading up to the creation of our main Inter the Dungeon card game, we will create 3 additional mini-games to help showcase and educate other developers on using our API and NFT Specifications. The games will also help generate data that will automate filling out some portions of the cross-compatibility NFT Specification. Ex. The AxieRun game will save data that can later be used in other games that support the AxieRun attributes.

### Mini/Micro-Games

· Axisays – A memory game that allows users to understand using restful APIs in their Unity games

· AxieDoll – A paper doll game that allows users to import/create art assets to dress up and define the environment for their Axies. Allow users to share links and create content for these unique cosmetic builds.

· AxieRun – A simple platformer that allows players to import and define the attributes of in-game items.

# Technology

The game is being developed on Unity. We plan to have both an APK and a WebGL version.

### Back End:

#### Languages and Frameworks

We use full Openshift 4 clusters to host several microservices written with Quarkus (Java designed specifically for containers) and Node.js/Typescript.

We use 3Scale running on Openshift as well to manage any APIs we create.

We run Openshift 4 on bare metal nodes. We have Threadrippers capable of running RPC Nodes for unfettered access to on-chain data.

#### Database

MongoDB replica set running as a StatefulSet on Openshft 4.

Multiple back-ups and DR solutions are in place. Including Ansible jobs to send copies to s3 buckets.

### Clients:

#### Languages and Frameworks

React and React Native, Typescript, and Node.js for browser-based front ends.

The Inter The Dungeon games are created with Unity for a native desktop and mobile gaming experience.

### Nodes:

We're currently running a Ronin node (interthedungeon-non-validator @<https://stats.roninchain.com/> ) with a pending application to run a validator node.
